How do bags under the eyes form?

Bags and dark circles under the eyes are often genetically determined. There are several causes:

Volume loss under the eyes
Bags and dark circles are often caused by a lack of volume beneath the eyes. This volume loss in the cheek/dark circle area, sometimes present from a young age, gradually increases with aging. This occurs because the zygoma (cheekbone/orbital area) changes over time, leading to a loss of (fat) volume. The best solution for this issue is to replenish volume under the eyes. Eye creams, carboxytherapy, or surgery do not effectively reduce these bags.

Fine lines and bluish appearance
Dark circles are usually due to volume loss under the eyes, but they can also result from reduced blood circulation around the eyes and thinning of the skin. The poorly circulated superficial blood vessels create a bluish tint because the lower eyelid skin is so thin. Reduced blood flow accelerates the aging process, enhancing the bluish color and eventually contributing to fine lines.

Pigmentation
Pigmentation is mainly observed in individuals with darker or mixed skin tones.
