5 Skin Myths Debunked

Just like there are many myths about exercise and healthy eating, there are also many myths about your skin. For example, your skin would recover faster through a good night's sleep and natural cosmetic products would be better for your skin than synthetic products. These views are often not based on scientific knowledge but go from word of mouth. The truth usually lies somewhere in between. We've listed the 5 biggest myths about your skin.

1. Drinking water has no effect on your skin In fact, drinking water is very good for your skin. It prevents you from drying out and your skin from losing its elasticity. This is because a shortage of water lowers your blood pressure, which can lead to a sunken face or wrinkled skin. The amount of water your body needs varies from person to person and depends, among other things, on the climate and your diet and exercise habits. However, don't overdo drinking water. Drinking too much water in one day or in a very short time has no influence on your skin's aging process. The water leaves your body far too quickly for that, says Jeffrey Dover, professor at Yale University, USA. Drinking too much water or drinking a lot of water within a short time can actually be dangerous. The kidneys must be able to process them. If you drink about 1.5 liters of water a day, that is sufficient. Also spread your amount of water intake evenly over the day.2. Your skin recovers faster through a good night's sleep It's good to get enough sleep for both your physical and mental health. However, it is a myth that your skin recovers better and faster during the night. This is because skin repair is an ongoing process that also takes place during the day. Due to insufficient sleep, your body produces more stress hormones. And those hormones, in turn, ensure that your skin produces less collagen, causing your skin to lose its elasticity and firmness. You also increase the chance of puffiness and dark circles under the eyes due to lack of sleep. 3. Natural products are better for your skin than synthetic products It seems obvious that skin care products with natural ingredients are better for your skin than products that contain synthetic ingredients. However, it does not matter whether a particular component is derived from a natural source or artificially created. This is because the effects remain the same. At least, if the artificially created substance is the same as the natural substance. An artificial substance that is completely different from any other natural substance can of course have different effects on your skin. This also works the same way with cosmetic treatments. That's why Clinic Doctor Frodo uses temporary fillers with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance, to treat wrinkles, fine lines and loss of volume in your skin. 4. Combat acne with spot treatment Spot treatment, or the fight against pimples with the help of cosmetic products, does indeed help get rid of that annoying pimple. Unfortunately, your acne then rears its ugly head within two weeks. If you really want to get rid of your pimples for good, it makes more sense to prevent excess sebum production from your skin. A good scrub, avoiding stress and cleansing your skin regularly can offer a solution. Don't overdo the exfoliation though, as it can damage your skin. If you continue to suffer from impure skin, a peeling improve. 5. Creams with collagen have a skin-improving effect It seems plausible: a component of your skin is collagen, so a cream with collagen will supplement this component and thereby make the skin firmer and more elastic. We're telling this myth. This is because collagen is such a large component that it is difficult to penetrate the skin. New creams containing so-called hydrolysed collagen, or reduced collagen components, are now on the market. However, these reduced molecules are too small to replenish your skin's own collagen. However, the creams are not completely useless. They regulate your fluid balance because collagen retains moisture. If you really want to stimulate the production of collagen, you can choose a treatment with Sculptra fillers to undergo.
