The difference between botox and fillers

The differences between Botox vs fillers at a glance

  • Botox reduces muscle tension, fillers fill volume loss.
  • Botox has an effect of approximately 3-5 months, fillers break down after months to years.
  • A Botox treatment takes about 15 minutes, a filler treatment takes about 15-30 minutes.
  • Botox is often used for the preventive effect on the forehead, preventative fillers for the rest of the face.
  • Botox has been used since the late 1970s; in the early 1970s, the first collagen fillers came on the market.

Botox, fillers, injectables... You've probably seen all these terms come up before. But what do they mean? What can you achieve with these cosmetic treatments? And what are the main differences between Botox and fillers? We would be happy to explain that to you.

Injectables

The generic name for all treatments that improve or change the appearance and/or shape of the face by injecting a substance is “injectables”. In fact, “injectable” means nothing more than “injectable.” Botox and fillers are both examples of injectables. Indeed, both are injected. The biggest difference between Botox and fillers is that fillers fill volume and Botox causes muscles to relax, making wrinkles less visible. Both treatments take place without cutting.

What is Botox?

With a very thin needle, the Botox is injected into the muscles that cause wrinkles or lines. The substance Botulinum Toxin (Botox) reduces muscle contraction and relaxes the skin. The treatment takes about 10 to 15 minutes. You will see the effect after about three to five days and the effect will be maximum after 14 days. The result has been maintained for three to five months. Botox is used, among other things, when it comes to frown lines, crow's feet and forehead wrinkles, but Botox is also a frequently used solution for excessive sweating, migraines, bruxism (teeth grinding) and eye twitching. What are fillers?

Fillers are used to restore (local) loss of volume. Think of sunken cheeks, wrinkles at the corners of the mouth and sunken eyes (puffiness). Fillers are also ideal for filling lips. The treatment takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on where the filler is used. Fillers last for a number of years (depending on where it was used) and are broken down by the body itself. This is because the fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a substance produced by the body. More about fillers

Combination of Botox and fillers

Your face and appearance are a complex interplay of factors. What kind of look do you want? What is your age? How quickly and sustainably do you want to see results? What does your face look like? Your eyes, mouth, nose, cheeks, bone structure, muscles, skin, etc. Based on this, we make a personal treatment plan where we combine Botox and fillers. So whether we use Botox and/or willers depends a lot on your situation and wishes. Botox and fillers have a completely different effect and can therefore be combined perfectly. So actually, you shouldn't compare them. Together, Botox and fillers provide toned, smooth skin that looks younger. For example, if someone has wrinkles in case of rest, but also sunken cheeks, a combination treatment may be the solution. More about the process from clinic doctor Frodo. More about fillers or Botox
