Stretch marks

What are stretch marks?

Stretch marks are also known as stretch marks or stretch marks. But what is actually the cause of stretch marks? Mariëlle, stretch mark expert at Clinic Doctor Frodo, explains: “The cause of stretch marks is actually very rapid growth. For example, in your youth, when you are rapidly gaining height. Athletes who gain mass rapidly can also suffer from stretch marks. '

Pregnancy stretch marks

Perhaps the most well-known cause of stretch marks is pregnancy. During pregnancy, the pregnant woman's belly grows rapidly. The breasts and hips can also increase enormously in size in a short period of time. This can cause cracks in the skin. In other words: stretch marks. What applies to all causes of stretch marks is that the skin suddenly grows considerably. Actually, the skin can't even keep up with that growth. This causes small cracks in the subcutaneous connective tissue. And those cracks are called stretch marks.

Symptoms of stretch marks

Most often, stretch marks begin with itching. This is a feature that your skin can no longer cope with rapid growth. Subsequently, stretch marks occur in the form of thin, red-blue, sometimes white, stripes. These are scars, at the bottom of the connective tissue. In the following period, the stripes become lighter in color due to scarring. This process can take several years. Stretch marks never disappear completely on their own. The white stripes are always visible. Stretch marks occur on:

  • tummy
  • breasts
  • thighs
  • chips
  • buttocks
  • arms

Remove stretch marks

Almost everyone has stretch marks. If you lose weight, or when your belly shrinks again after giving birth, that skin does not stretch back. Subsequently, the stretch marks become more visible. Stretch marks can never be completely removed, even with the help of a laser.
