If you suffer from dark circles under the eyes, it means that the skin under your eyes is thinner than it should be. There are multiple causes for these dark circles, and we’ have outlined some of the most common causes below.
Lifestyle
Dark circles under the eyes are often a symptom your lifestyle. Lack of sleep can affect dark circles. Some people develop dark circles after just one night of too little sleep or going to bed a little too late; others suffer from a chronic lack of sleep that can cause dark circles.
Stress
Stress is often a cause of poor sleep, which means stress can indirectly make dark circles more visible.
Heredity
There is also a genetic component to how prominent under-eye circles are. Some people develop under-eye circles even if they aren’t fatigued.
Lack of exercise and fresh air
Dark circles can be caused by a lack of fresh air and physical activity. This can cause both dark circles as well as stress.
Vitamin and mineral deficiency
A lack of vitamins (C and E) and minerals in the diet can cause poor blood circulation, which leads to dark circles. Iron deficiency makes the skin paler, making circles more noticeable, and antioxidant deficiency can also cause dark circles.
UV radiation
Sunlight makes your skin look better in the short term. But in the long term, it can make dark circles even darker. Sunlight accelerates skin ageing and causes dark circles to appear more prominent.
Smoking and alcohol
Smoking and alcohol have a negative effect on your sleep quality, causing fatigue. Subsequently it can cause dark circles to form under the eyes. Smoking can affect blood vessel quality, which in turn reduces blood flow and may cause dark circles to form. Alcohol dehydrates your skin, causing dark circles and fine lines to appear.
In the initial stage, dark circles under the eyes are easy to treat. The skin under the eyes usually becomes completely smooth after treatment. That means you will no longer need opaque or camouflaging agents. In the first stage, cosmetic treatment often goes unnoticed, even though the dark circles have disappeared.
At this stage, make-up can be a good solution for dark circles under the eyes but isn’t always the preferred choice for men.
In the second stage, the dark circles are slightly deeper in the skin. The best way to treat dark circles in this phase is with hyaluronic acid fillers. The effects are clearly visible, but it won’t be immediately noticeable to people around you.
In the third stage, the dark circles become much more severe. Fillers will reduce the dark circles, but they will never completely disappear. In some cases, we may recommend splitting treatment into two sessions to reduce swelling. The results will be clearly visible, and there will be a clear improvement. We can also improve skin quality with a combination of laser and carboxy therapy.
In the fourth stage, the dark circles are very serious. The black circles under the eyes, or sometimes the dark spots under the eyes, are deep in the skin and often can’t be improved with fillers alone. At this stage, you may want to consider surgical eyelid correction, and we can refer you to a surgical specialist.
The price list for our dark circle treatments is listed below. We have also included our treatments for eye bags, as they can often be a good solution for dealing with dark circles.
Very friendly staff, very professional treatment with amazing results. Highly recommended if your face needs to be ‘freshened up’ a bit!

Dark circles are often genetic. There are several causes:
Dark circles are often caused by a lack of volume under the eyes. Volume deficits in the cheeks/dark circles often start early and gradually increase with age. That is because the zygoma/eye socket/cheek bone changes with age and volume is lost. The best solution to this problem is to replenish under-eye volume using fillers. Eye creams, carboxy therapy, or surgery will not improve these circles.
Dark circles are usually caused by a lack of volume under the eyes, but sometimes they are also caused by reduced blood flow to the skin around the eyes and thinning skin. Poor circulation in those vessels can cause a blue tinge because the skin of the lower eyelids is thin, and the vessels are close to the surface. Reduced blood flow causes the blue colour and accelerates ageing and fine lines.
Pigmentation is primarily an issue in dark or mixed-tone skin.
There is no minimum age for treating eye bags and dark circles. We can treat anyone over the age of 18.
If dark circles are hereditary, it can cause eye bags or dark circles even at an early age.
We can treat anyone over the age of 18. We do not treat pregnant or breastfeeding women. Please note that if you use blood thinners, the risk of bruising increases significantly.
