Difference between Hybrid and CO2 laser treatment

The CO2 laser and ALMA Hybrid Laser Treatment are both focused on medical and cosmetic improvement of various skin problems. Although they pursue the same goal, there are differences between these treatments. In this blog, we explain these differences, specifically between the standard CO2 treatment and the ALMA Hybrid facial laser.

Purpose of the laser treatments:

Both the standard CO2 laser and the ALMA Hybrid laser are used to prevent or reduce skin aging and to stimulate skin rejuvenation. They help reduce wrinkles, scars, fine lines and other skin problems such as hyperpigmentation and a dull skin texture.

How the CO2 laser works:

The CO2 laser emits a strong beam of light that hits the skin and heats the water in the skin cells to evaporate. This causes controlled (minor) damage to the top layer of the skin. In response, the body starts repairing the skin cells, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin in the face.

How the ALMA Hybrid laser works:

The ALMA Hybrid laser combines CO2 laser treatment with additional energy sources, namely Erbium Glass and Ultrasound. Erbium Glass targets the deeper layers of the skin and coagulates deep into the dermis, keeping the epidermis intact. It also stimulates collagen and elastin production in the skin. The Hybrid laser also uses IMPACT Ultrasound technology. The CO2 laser creates micro channels in the skin, so that active ingredients can be better absorbed via ultrasound technology. This improves the penetration of active substances, leading to faster recovery and excellent results. The combination of these three energy sources ensures that the Hybrid treatment has a shorter recovery period compared to traditional laser treatments. Despite the same intensity, this laser causes less deep damage, so redness and scabs are less intense and last for a shorter time.
