Couperosis – or disfiguring red or blue blood vessels on cheeks, chin, forehead and nose – occurs in many people. Camouflaging couperose with makeup is a temporary answer to this problem. However, there is also a definitive solution with which you can remove rosacea: a couperosis treatment with laser.
Would you like to know more about how we can treat your couperose? Schedule a no-obligation video consultation. During the consultation we discuss the indications and the options.
Plan een videoconsultCouperosis occurs mainly in middle-aged men and women. The veins are often seen as non-functional. They do not contribute to the supply of blood to the heart. Although people are often disturbed by rosacea, the skin problem is usually harmless. But it can also prevent couperose symptoms. For example, the head can turn red with temperature differences. Sometimes there is rosacea, a chronic skin condition whose cause is unknown.
Symptoms of rosacea are:
Does one of your parents have rosacea? Then there is a good chance that you will also get rosacea. Hereditary predisposition plays a role in getting couperose; how strong the vascular walls of the blood vessels are is genetically determined. Even when you are active in wind and weather and you are exposed to UV radiation, rosacea can worsen.
Do you want to have couperose removed? Then a couperosis treatment with laser can offer a solution. During an initial consultation, it is discussed which method is best for someone, the (im)possibilities of a couperose treatment, the risks and its aftercare.
We work with different types of lasers and depending on the severity and etiology of the rosacea, we choose the vascular laser ND-YAG 1064nm laser or the IPL 540nm laser. We perform a skin scan that allows us to look deep into the skin and visualize the condition of the skin. The treatment of couperosis with laser is performed without anaesthetic. The removal of rosacea usually takes 15 to 30 minutes. Multiple treatments are often required to remove rosacea.
After the laser treatment of couperose, the skin is cooled with air. This makes the treatment more comfortable and less painful. The first few days after the couperosis laser the skin may be slightly red and there may be a slight swelling. The skin can then optionally be cooled using a cold, wet cloth. It is advisable to protect the skin well after the couperose treatment with a sunscreen with a high protection factor.
At Kliniek Dokter Frodo, the removal of couperose using IPL and/or the ND-YAG laser is used. This combination appears to be the most effective method, with most people seeing results after the first treatment.
